FE Technologies takes Gordon to the cutting edge

Geelong’s Gordon Institute of TAFE has drawn on local technological expertise for its new state-of-the-art library. In a first for a Victorian TAFE, the Gordon has integrated Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to cement its position as a leader in tertiary education.

Developed and installed by FE Technologies, the Smart Library™ RFID system brings library data storage and transfer into the future. It speeds up the borrowing process for library staff and users through a more efficient system for check-out, check-in, returns, hold items, stock-take and daily shelf management.

As part of the system, the Gordon has incorporated the intuitive, user-friendly Self Loan Station into its new library. The Self Loan Station can process five items simultaneously and connects to the library’s existing LMS and network. The stations can also be uniquely branded, adapted to languages other than English and set up to feature patron-specific messages on recognition.

With striking geometrical design, funky furniture and innovative technology the Gordon’s impressive new library facilities are central to the institute’s $3.9 million upgrade aimed at meeting growing student demand.
