How does it work?

RFID is a complex technology that, in simple terms, works by sending and receiving information via radio waves.

As with all RFID systems, FE Technologies’ Smart Library™ system uses Radio Frequency (RF) tags and Radio Frequency (RF) readers to transfer data.

The RFID tag receives radio frequency waves from the RF reader. The tag (via its tiny, built-in antenna) uses the energy from these waves to broadcast back the information located on its microchip.

Radio waves pass through most things including water, air and buildings - even our FM radio keeps working if we stand in front of the receiver. This means an RF reader doesn't need a line-of-sight to receive the information broadcast by the RF tag and vice-versa.

Using radio waves also enables multiple, almost concurrent reads (in actual fact they are consecutive, but just very quick).
